I've missed Seven Quick Takes for weeks now (hosted by the lovely Jen at Conversion Diary) so I'm catching up with a random little list of my own.
1. Have you seen the British Channel Four show The World's Squarest Teenagers? Youtube has a whole bunch of videos showing clips from the show and I have become mildly obsessed with them.
2. What about this one! I laughed and laughed....oh boy, it can't be easy.
3. Two new blogs are appearing on my "when I have time, I read" list, for those of you who are discerning and vigilant in staring at the main page! Titus2 is a ministry of the Maxwell Family and a blog I have followed for years now, and I fully intend to purchase their children's books for Samuel when the time is right. The other blog, Generation Cedar, is a new one I've just recently stumbled accross. I wouldn't usually endorse something I haven't read through pretty well, but I'm confident this is a keeper. Here's a little snippet of something on birth control that I read on Generation Cedar that set my soul singing!
What I mean is, the reproduction process works (usually) just like any other bodily function. It’s natural, it’s normal, it’s built-in. Our ability to tamper with it shouldn’t change that. Can you think of any other physiological process that requires “encouragement”?
Imagine a new trend…people found out that they could get a lot more work done if they got a catheter. Think of it, you could go for hours without the need to stop and go to the restroom. At first people are hesitant, but after a while it catches on. Then one day somebody gets the idea that they don’t want to use a catheter–they found it caused infection and just doesn’t seem normal. Problem: the “norm” has been changed. And now, if you don’t have a catheter, you’re weird. So, authors start writing books, blogs and articles about how it’s “OK” to go catheterless. And despite all the encouragement, those catheterless people will continue to receive criticism simply for not interfering with nature. If you ask me, that’s insane. Should people be allowed to get catheters if they want them? SURE! But should that be the norm?
Ah, birth control. Topic of a million blog posts.
4. Tomorrow is Epiphany! Hurray! If I had a little girl I would be buying her these as a gift, but I don't, so Samuel is getting a tambourine and a wooden puzzle. On the other hand, there isn't anything saying that a Mama couldn't also get herself a little something for Epiphany....hmmm. Would I like a little something from Homestead Blessings?
5. Do you have something you've been avoiding for a while now? Yup, me too. It's called bathing suit shopping. Oh buoy! I've been cruising though a few sites looking for just the right one. Something between this and, well, I'm not going to post a picture of what I found by typing 'sexy bikini' into Google but you all get the drift. Surely there must be something out there? So far, not a lot of luck.
6. I'm challenging myself to read 52 books this year and I'd welcome suggestions. Sometimes you just feel the atrophy, you know? Anyway, I took a couple out of the library already and I'm trying to keep a list of them, but the first was a little on the dark side for me and the second hasn't grabbed me yet. I'm soldiering on, but I would love to hear your favourites. What should I be reading this year?
