I'm in the thick of getting Samuel's room in order and one of the things I've been up to is organizing his bookshelf, so this seven quick takes is going to be seven of my favourites on his shelves right now. Here's what we read together! Take a look at Jen over at Conversion Diary to see her Seven Quick Takes.
1. Peepo - Here's an Ahlberg classic, right along with Each Peach Pear Plum, The Baby's Catalogue and, of course, The Jolly Postman. Peepo is my favourite and a wonderful little homage to WWII-era life in Britain through Janet Ahlberg's glorious illustrations. So detailed.
2. Quiet Loud - What a neat series this is! There is also Big Little, Yummy Yucky and possibly others that all illustrate with big clear colourful illustrations the idea of opposites. Or, for very little boys, the pictures are just lots of fun in contrasting colours.
3. Sometimes I Like To Curl Up In A Ball - Baby wombat goes through his day explaining in rhyme all of the things he likes to do. Stand still, jump up and down, run around, and of course, curl up with fluffy Big Wombat at the end of the day.
4. Lullaby Berceuse - We have to be careful with this lovely book and look gently at the soft pictures, which doesn't happen often at this age, but I adore the lullaby CD that came with it and the story is of a farm drifting to sleep.
5. M Is For Moose - Charles Pachter, famous Canadian artist, did this great alphabet book illustrated with his paintings of whimsical Canadiana such as the queen riding a moose, lots of mounties and loons and funny little things. There is a lot of text at the back for older children to explain the pictures, but the alphabet is pretty simple. We haven't looked at this together, I just remember buying it for Samuel before he was born and greatly enjoying it myself!
6. The Promised Land - Sekiya Miyoshi's watercolours tell the charming tale of Samuel and Miriam and a green bird who follow Moses to the promised land. Oh so beautiful.
7. Home - Samuel really likes this book. Each page has a picture of something at home, and then a flap to lift and see it in colour. He's fond of red.
