We love bread in this house, just love it. Bread, for the most part, tolerates us, but the lovey-dovey feelings we get simply by glancing in bread's direction are not generally reciprocated.
In short. We're going to get fat.
The day before yesterday I made two loaves of white bread, and by the afternoon of the next day, they were almost gone. Three people who can consume almost two loaves of bread in a day need help. So, yesterday I made more bread, except this time I tried to make it healthier. Here's my recipe, highly modified from the original, which was called Seeded Whole Wheat Bread and was found in my bread machine manual.
2 cups of milk
1 Tbsp lemon juice
2 cups whole wheat flour
4 cups white flour
3 tsp yeast
1/4 cup water
2 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp oil
1/2 cup wheat germ
2 Tbsp sesame seeds
Into the bread machine it went on the dough setting, and then was split into two loaves, set to rise and baked at 350 F.
It was denser than my usual white bread recipe, and not as sweet-tasting, but good all the same. I think that perhaps I need to remove the sesame seeds, which are, now that I'm eating the bread, pointless. I also wouldn't mind doing something to the whole milk/lemon juice/water mixture. Perhaps substitute yogurt? Or sour cream in some way? And definately increase the honey by a couple of Tbsp.
Bread is a work in progress. But what a nice hobby where you can eat your mistakes.
