Canada Day Fireworks

Despite being sunburnt and hot, and it being three hours past Samuel's bedtime, we went to see the Canada Day fireworks display last night.

And this is the part where I reveal yet again what a no-fun Nancy I am about some things.

There were bouncy castles.  I don't like Samuel to go on bouncy castles with other children, because I don't have control of said other children and they might hurt him.  A very kind man gave Samuel a glow in the dark necklace, which he promptly started flinging around causing me heart palpitations because what if he broke it open and got cancer from whatever was inside, or licked his finger or something and got poisoned?  I'm hazy about how, exactly, this would happen but that doesn't stop me from worrying about it.  There were crowds, which makes me nervous because Samuel is both little and very fast, plus he was tired and groggy being up so late so him getting lost was a possibility.  David held his hand the whole time but still...

We sat on a low wall, and Samuel dropped his toy tractor on the ground, and when he reached down to get it I noticed there were cigarette butts down there and what if he touched one...

And so forth.  Anyway, then the fireworks started and I kept trying to cover Clara's ears because, I mean, her eardrums could be damaged, right?  Right?

And people kept stopping to look at Clara and talk to Samuel.  I wish I was better with these types of interactions but they make me antsy.  I don't like people touching Clara's hands and face because I'm always afraid their hands are dirty, so I wish they would just gently pat her back or hold a foot or something, but I'm never able to actually come out and SAY this, so I just smoulder.  And I don't want Samuel to be forced into conversations with unknown people, I don't like that.  Ack.

We did get some pictures, keeping up the tradition of a picture of each child at each Canada Day fireworks display.  There is nothing that shows me the wonder of childhood more than the face of a person watching fireworks.
