I am getting really tired of processed food. Thank goodness this is the second to last recipe to make. Tonight was the $2.50 dinner for two. I'm torn about the accuracy of this statement. I had to use a can of tomato soup - .99, a can of beans - at least $1.50, half of a package of hamburger meat - the package was just over $6.00, so approx. $3.00 worth of meat, plus whatever the potatoes, onion and spices worked out to. I would say the whole meal cost between $6.00-$7.00 dollars to make. However, it made at least four servings, not two, so that's about $3.00-$3.50 to feed two people each time. Still not $2.50 but if you bought beans and soup on sale and used a bit less meat it could be $2.50.
It does, however, tie the Pepsi Pot Roast for speed of execution. It is literally a question of tossing stuff in a pan and frying it. Then you shove it in the oven and presto...supper. I will confess that when I went to get my potatoes I discovered they were so old they might possibily have learned English so I had to toss them and ladle the meat mixture over rice. I have to say that it was vaguely spaghetti sauce like. But not as good. Sort of a sweet tomato sauce spooned over rice, or, done properly, with mashed potatoes. My husband ate his rather disconsolately and I think he will be grateful for recognizeable food again soon.
Tomorrow we have the final recipe; a pork chop dish cooked with sauerkraut and bbq sauce. It sounds terribly unpleasant, doesn't it?
